20 Things Every 20-Something Girl Should Know

Here are twenty things I have learned that every twenty something person should do! Make sure some of these are on your bucket list!

  1. TRAVEL SOMEWHERE BY YOURSELF

I personally moved somewhere by myself and it was definitely one of the best decisions I have made. Life was not meant to be lived in one place. Even if you take a weekend trip to the beach, mountains, anywhere by yourself you’ll feel a sense of independence and peace of mind.

2. APPLY FOR YOUR DREAM JOB

This one can be a little scary but why not go for it? The worst thing they can say is no so why not?! We always tell ourselves that we aren’t qualified enough or there is someone better than me so why bother. Life is to short to be miserable at your 9-5 job. Everyone thought I was crazy for choosing Marine Biology as my career but I went for it anyway and I am loving life. I am the happiest I have ever been because I didn’t listen to those people and decided to go for it.

3. EMBRACE YOUR BODY TYPE AND LOVE IT

You only get one body so love it, nourish it, and push it to it’s limits. See what your body is capable of.

4. TAKE A GIRLS TRIP

Time with your significant other is great but everyone needs some girl time to bitch, laugh, and get drunk off of Sangria.

5. RUN A MARATHON

I hate running but I ran my first 5k with my best friend and it was SO MUCH FUN. We did a color me rad and I was so nervous because she was a runner and I am not. It was really hard and I did throw up at the finish line in front of everyone but I had a smile on my face.

6. LEARN TO COOK

I am still working on this one….

7. TREAT YOURSELF

Anyone a parks and rec fan? Once a month I always treat myself. Whether it’s buying a new makeup palette (hello naked heat palette), going on a day trip, or a spa day. If you work hard for your money don’t forget to reward yourself sometimes.

8. FIND A FAVORITE EXCERISE

Yoga, Pilates, Running, Walking, Biking, Hiking, etc. Finding an exercise Β you love will help enjoy staying in shape.

9. OPEN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT

I think this is the most important. Even if you can only put $5.00 in your account at least it is something and it will help.

10. VOLUNTEER

I honestly love volunteering. I volunteer with sea turtles once a week and it was the best decision I made when I moved to Florida alone. It’s a great way to get involved, meet friends, and feel good about yourself. There are so many websites and organizations that need volunteers. I’m sure whatever your interest is, volunteers are needed.

11. DO SOMETHING THAT SCARES YOU

Try skydiving or learning a new language or giving a speech. I think the best way to really live is to push yourself. Not a lot of things scare me so I’m still trying to figure this one out. I really would love, once getting scuba certified, to free dive with sharks at night. That is definitely on my list.

12. GO TO COLLEGE

I understand that not everyone wants to go to college or can afford it for that matter but I think everyone should at least give it a try. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an associates degree from a community college or even trying college for a few months. A degree from a private, state, or community college is still a degree. If you decided to join the military after high school the military will pay for you to go to college. Try it.

13. NO JUDGEMENT

I learned this in college, just let people be themselves. I saw a people come to class in onesies, bring pillows, wear masks the whole nine yards but hey if they’re happy and don’t give a damn what other people think of them why should you?

14. DO THAT THING YOU ALWAYS SAID YOU WERE GOING TO DO WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER

Live out your childhood fantasy even if it’s only for a day (and if it’s morally or legally okay).

15. BOOK BEFORE MOVIE

Always, always, always read the books before you see the movie. The books are always better.

16. GET DRESSED UP JUST BECAUSE

I promise this will instantly make you feel better if you’re having a crappy day. Put on a dress, do your make-up differently or your hair differently even if you’re just going food shopping. It’ll brighten your mood and you’ll feel better because of it.

17. BLOW OFF EVERYTHING FOR A DAY

Forget adulting, have a Ferris Bueller day and do anything you want.

18. GO ON A DATE WITH SOMEONE NEW

Try having a cup of coffee or ice cream with someone you thought wasn’t your type. It may have a happy ending.

19. LAUGH AT YOURSELF

You fall in front of everyone on the street or you burp really loudly in a staff meeting, laugh it off and people will forget. You don’t need to be serious all the time.

20. FORGET SOCIAL MEDIA

Life won’t end if you don’t check instagram, twitter, facebook, pinterest, youtube, etc. Spend time with your family, away from your phone. Talk to your friends, go dancing, don’t waste your life looking at someone else’s.
